Figure 86: Two views of Pardoe's Nantgarw pipe and pottery works (Williams 1932, 110-111).
Two photographs, published in 1932 (Figure 86a & b), show three bottle kilns at the Pardoe pottery, Nantgarw (Williams 1932, 110-111). Two of these kilns were used to fire pottery whilst the third was used for pipes in its lower chamber and small pipe clay pots in a second chamber above. In Figure 86a, with the canal in the foreground, the pipe kiln is nearest to the observer. In the second picture (Figure 86b) the pipe kiln is that on the extreme left. This kiln had been standing by 1868 when Llywellyn Jewitt made a drawing of the pottery (Williams 1932, 109).
