2500bc-14/1300bc | A double ditched barrow much like a disc barrow with an external bank. Central burial F605 contained the articulated upper half of a child, laid with care, the arms flexed as if the whole body had been crouched, and accompanied by a food vessel. The primary central burial consisted of an adult male c18-23, head to N, crouched with an awl lying against the left foot. The burial pit was cut by F605 (a double burial associated with a food vessel), and by a secondary unaccompanied cremation F606, both overlying the first two deposits. About 2m south east of these there was an infant inhumation in the crouched position in a shallow pit. On the north east side of the barrow there was a plough damaged satellite cremation. There was a cremation L601/B/3 mid way in the outer ditch on the silt in an upright biconical derivative vessel, comprising the remains of a child, over which was inverted a smaller collared urn. |
