8/700bc-100bc | A settlement of perhaps 20-40 acres comprising at least three contiguous villages occupied from c5th Century BC to the 1st Century AD. [There was also a 3rd/4th Century AD cemetery.] The site at Area R contained a pit burial of Skeleton I, that of an adult female c40-55 found crouched on the left side and oriented N, in the filling which was homogeneous above and below the body. In the fill were Iron Age A sherds and more fragmented human bones. The body appeared to have been thrown in casually. |
