3500bc - 2500bc | A long barrow oriented SE, covering a stratum of black earth at the east end. In and between this were remains of 3 men, 3 women and 2 children. The deepest interment showed no signs of violence, but the skulls of the others were cleft. The remains were 'singularly cemented together' in a space c1m in diameter x 0.5m deep. They were intermingled and closely packed, such that this cannot have been their primary burial, but they must have been removed from elsewhere after the bodies had decayed. |
