8/700bc-100bc | An unenclosed settlement site subjected to a limited emergency excavation of pits (72 were identified) in two areas during road construction. Eleven pits were excavated, but not all fully. In Pit 7, the largest, was the shaft of a human femur and part of a mandible, the latter belonging to an adult c30-35. Pit 9 contained the skulls of a horse and 4 cattle deliberately placed in a circular arrangement in the bottom. Pottery dated the site to the Early-Middle Iron Age. |
