2500bc-14/1300bc | A round barrow with ditch, with a mound of clay and earth or peat irregularly stratified. At its base was a pavement of flints 3.9m x 2.7m set in clay on a levelled surface, spread with charcoal of burnt brushwood and furze, and on it was centrally placed an assumed primary deposit of burnt bones. Immediately above this was a fine decorated and handled shale cup, which had been turned on a pole lathe. In the charcoal were nodules of red ochre and iron pyrites in amounts suggesting deliberate collection. [Kirwan A]. |
