2500bc-14/1300bc | A barrow with 1.8m below the top a primary cremation of an adult, a mass of burnt bones with scarcely any charcoal. 0.5m below this was a seam 10cm thick of burnt wood on a reddened floor, the site of the pyre. There were some fragments of burnt bone in the ash, and a 'chipped flint disc'. The fire had been lit on the original ground surface, and the pyre was supported by stakes. Two scrapers and many other flints were found, some burned. In the mound material a Beaker sherd was found. |
