2500bc-14/1300bc | A bowl barrow which at the centre 0.45m above the old ground surface contained the bones of a young pig. Beneath these were four sarsen stones which themselves had been placed on top of an hour glass shaped grave. At the middle (narrow) part of the grave was placed the burnt bones of an adult accompanied by a single plain pot sherd. An inhumation had been discovered in an earlier excavation, at the centre within 1.2m of the barrow top. A fragment of human skull had also been buried 0.6m below the surface 6m south of the barrow centre. In the mound material were several bones of ox, goat or sheep, and pig, and many flint chippings. |
