3500bc - 2500bc | A probable circular cairn containing a polygonal chamber of limestone slabs with an entrance passage from the ESE with a concave forecourt. Some disturbance by recent digging but four groups of human skeletal material were found in stratified deposits. There were at least 3 adults (a male c40 or more, and a young adult male at least could be identified) and one infant in the first (Neolithic) deposits: these were subsequently cleared for the laying of paving. Broken pottery of Western Neolithic with these primary level deposits. Burning on the original soil surface originated from small fires. |
2500bc-14/1300bc | The primary (Neolithic) inhumations had been cleared and fires lit on the chamber floor, then the floor was paved with irregular slabs. On the paving was the flexed burial of an adult male less than c20, laid on left side, placed in position after decay of flesh, with a Peterborough style potsherd and a sherd probably of Bell Beaker. |
