2500bc-14/1300bc | A bowl barrow of earth and a little chalk. There was a central oval grave oriented NE/SW 1.05m x 0.75m x 0.12m deep in which was an adult male cremation. On this were laid 2 hammer heads, perforated, one of stone, one of red deer antler, neither burnt. On the bones was also an incense cup, and beside them a bronze knife. 1.2m south of the centre on the original surface was a small pottery vessel, unassociated with the burial. In the mound material were: a sharp pointed pin of bird leg bone, some ox bones and several potsherds. 1.8m east south east of centre and 0.3m above the original ground surface was a small circular hole entirely filled with charcoal. Around the centre the ground surface was covered in charcoal and wood ash but not burnt. |
