3500bc - 2500bc | A long mound of chalk rubble, with an apparent mortuary area at the E. There was paving of oolite and sarsen blocks, on, under and spread around which were the bones of 3 adults and one child c8, and a cremation deposit of at least one adult. The skeletons were incomplete, the bones broken and not in their correct relative positions, and four vertebrae in fact being strung on a rib bone. They occurred at different levels and may have been thrown in haphazardly as the mound was built up. No ashes or signs of fire were found, and no pottery whatsoever. |
