2500bc-14/1300bc | A ring ditch consisting of a sub-circular continuous ditch over 20m in diameter, originally with an inner bank or mound. The ditch enclosed 4 small post holes laid out in a square, and a pit directly south of the square. These may predate the bank and ditch. From the lower fill of the ditch came 70 marine shells, and from the upper fill a fragmentary cremation presumed human, and a Group 1 stone axe. [Order suggested by Whittle et al 1992: Dorchester Site VIII, 1, III, XI, II, I, IV, V, VI, 2, 3, XIV, XII, XIII, 4, VII, IX]. |
