3500bc - 2500bc | An earthen long barrow oriented ENE built on an old turf line with chalk rubble excavated from side ditches. Two axial holes 4.5m apart, and a trench across the barrow width at the east end. To the south of the axis and bracketed by the axial holes was a contracted single male inhumation laid on the original ground surface surrounded by remains of turf and traces of 'decayed wood or charcoal'. Probably this was a burial in an axial mortuary house. |
