3500bc - 2500bc | Causewayed enclosure, where site soil did not preserve bone. North ditches included much abraded pottery. Silt was covered by burnt matter. 'In every section of the ditch the inner surface was invariably furiously burnt after a foot or two of rapid silt had filled up the bottom angle' (Liddell 1932, 162). However the north ditches excavated by Todd were relatively clear. There were a number of scooped hollows whose function was difficult to determine and may have been connected with burial ritual, but this cannot be substantiated. |
8/700bc-100bc | Few traces of structures and other features of this period have been traced. |
