The area of the front of the bank, revealed in plan below the state shown in 1/17. The dark turf revetment of the clay bank (to the left), gives way to the right to the clay packing behind the wall (period 2), then cut by the palisade trench (period 4), with the destruction deposits of the wall to the right. The beginnings of a late pit (possibly to obtain stones) appear top centre, below the ranging rod.
