The clay bank (to the left) and turf revetment (the dark area in the centre of the picture) in plan, as revealed underneath the topsoil. The revetment gives way to the right to the lighter mortary destruction deposits of the wall (period 3) which fill the space occupied by the wall (period 2), which cut into the original turf revetment of the bank. Further stage of the excavation shown in 1/1 and 1/10.
