View of the top of the mass of stones, derived from the destruction of the wall, filling the inner ditch (which is cut by a recent intrusion - centre front). This illustrates clearly how the ditch was filled with stones in order to neutralise its defensive potential. The stones from the razed wall, some of which are of considerable size, must have been carried or hurled at least 10 metres across the inner berm to achieve this result. A length of this ditch at its far end, on the line of section 1, was excavated - shown in photos 1/4 and 1/5. and the stone types sampled.
