Isis, the Egyptian fertility goddess, was popular in the Roman world and is most easily identified by the presence of a headdress – either the modius (227) or basileion (734). A seated figure from London, originally identified as Ceres, is now recognised as Isis with her mantle tied at the front in an Isis knot (127). Figurine 978 from Skeyton, Norfolk, has also been identified as Isis. However, as no image is available on the PAS website it is not possible to verify whether it is Roman or an Egyptian figurine that is a modern import.
