3.35.1 Boar

One of the more common animals is the boar, of which there are 25 examples. These figurines first appeared in the Iron Age and continued into the Roman period (Foster 1977, 5). While some are realistic depictions (98 and 359), many more are rather stylised, often naïve in nature (775 and 889). Few of the animal figurines come from dated contexts, but another early figurine dated to the 1st century BC or AD is Horse 872 from Swansea.
