3.35.13 Tortoise

Two tortoise figurines have been found in Britain at Colchester (1035) and Chester (679). Both are small pieces, and as their primary association is with Mercury, they could well have been part of a Mercury figurine group. However, it should also be noted that the tortoise is linked with the deity Sabazius (Bird 1996).
