Description | The right arm is hung with the hand resting on the pelvis and the left arm is raised to shoulder level. The figure is wearing a cuirass that shows details such as pectoral muscles, navel and stomach. The sleeves and skirt of the armour are represented by a series of linear grooves, this represents striped leather that would cover the jointed parts of the body and therefore not impede movement. The face is very worn with all detail of the nose missing, the mouth comprises of a vertical slot and the eyes are a circular ring. The back of the head is elongated suggesting that the figure is wearing a Corinthian helmet. There is an oval raised section on either side of the helmet with three grooved lines dividing it. All other detail of the possible helmet is missing. The left arm is missing from just above the elbow and the legs are missing from just below the knee on the right leg and just above the knee on the left leg. In the fight hand there may have originally held a spear and the right hand may have leant on a shield. Most of the surface is covered in a dark green patina with slight patches of mid green on the raised areas. Detail on many on the raised areas has been very worn (PAS). |
