2500bc-14/1300bc A ring ditch of c9m diameter but with a ditch c1.8m deep, steep sided and flat bottomed, cut by the outer ditch of Barrow 12 (Site 1048). Ranged around the floor of the ditch were 5 large deer antlers and two groups of articulated animal bone. The latter consisted of shoulder blades with upper and lower leg bones and are probably those of an immature cow. The ditch fill produced animal bones, waste flints, a Langdale axe fragment, large plain pot sherds of a Neolithic (?)bowl and charcoal deposits.

Contemporary with the cutting of the ditch, the old topsoil and natural gravel within the ring were reduced by c1m. Over the centre of this cone of undisturbed natural gravel in a layer post dating the natural ditch silting, a (?)biconical urn and cremation were found with articulated animal bone close by. This may have been the remains of an overlying pond barrow.
