14/1300bc-8/700bc | A barrow with a mound of large flints covering an inner mound of fine red loam, which in turn covered a second flint layer, then a thin earth layer, then a third dome of flint c1.8m wide x 0.8m high. This dome covered a small inverted bucket urn showing signs of intense heat which was embedded in red loam, and contained two or three small cremated bones, the other cremated bones lying separate. A pavement of flints formed the base of the innermost cairn, and the excavator thought they might have been used for the pyre base.. |
