2500bc-14/1300bc A pit c1.5m deep x 1.2-5m wide contained an urn set upright and containing a mixture of soil and (probably) well cremated bone. The floor of the pit was saucer shaped and thinly lined with clay brought from elsewhere on which to stand the urn. The urn was surrounded by ash in which there were 10 worked flint flakes and 1/2 flint cores, more flints, and several rounded pebbles. The urn was covered by more clay and then a roughly quadrangular stone slab followed by the remnants of the pyre. The clay showed evidence of burning, perhaps from the hot ashes deposited, some of the ash appearing below the bottom clay lining.
