100bc-AD43 | An extensive two phase Iron Age settlement with 21 round houses, animal enclosures, palisades and pits. To the north of the main concentration of settlement material five cremation pots were located in what appears to be a satellite cemetery between two ditches defining the settlement boundary. Two pits each held two pots, one containing cremation material, the other grave goods including the remains of fibulae of late La Tene type. The pottery is dated to the so-called grog-tempered Gallo-Belgic tradition of the Late Iron Age to the early Roman transition. Minute fragments of copper alloy chain and possible food residues were also found accompanying the cremations. |
