2500bc-14/1300bc | A barrow, roughly circular, set on the natural rock surface in which a slight hollow had been made for the grave which was aligned NE. The hollow was lined with blocks of limestone of various sizes to enclose an area c1.4m x 0.7m, the floor covered in oolitic limestone flakes. The coverstone was a large slab of Pennant limestone from c2 miles away. The inhumation was of a large (probable) male of middle age, probably of Beaker type from skull evidence, strongly flexed, head to N, and set on the left side. A small flint flake scraper or knife was found behind the pelvis, but was not directly associated, it was thought. |
