8/700bc-100bc | The finds from this midden, set on a former occupation layer and covering at least 5 hectares, include a number of skull fragments. The midden is c1m thick at the centre and contains a large quantity of pottery, bone (including articulated bone), bronze items (awls, tweezers, sheet bronze, vessels), worked bone and antler, coloured beads, shale objects (rings, cups) and other finds in a dark brown stiff sandy loam. There were a number of post holes and pits. The quantity and contents (only a small area was excavated relative to the whole) implies a fairly rich community. The site is believed to cover the period 1100-700 CalBC (c950-500bc). |
