3500bc - 2500bc Long barrow with a reveted stone mound of rectangular outline oriented E, rifled in 18th and 19th centuries, but excavated in 1940-41. The horned entrance led to an ante-chamber, gallery, 2 pairs of transepted burial chambers, and at the west end a transverse chamber c12m x 1.5m. Fragmentary human skeletal material was scattered in all chambers, of individuals of all ages and sexes (Grimes 1960: 1 male, 20 unknown sex, 6 adults, 5 children, 1 infant, 9 unidentified), occasional flints, and animal bone including pig, ox and sheep, and part of the jaw of a cat. Neolithic A pottery was found opposite the south entrance of the transverse chamber and Neolithic B at the margin of the extra-revetment opposite the south east horn. This pottery ante-dated the building of the long barrow. The forecourt and forecourt blocking were featureless.
2500bc-14/1300bc The position of Neolithic B pottery below the margin of the extra revetment opposite the south east horn of the long barrow implies a late Neolithic date (Grimes 1960).
