14/1300bc-8/700bc | In the Dainton field system there is a group of stone cairns scattered among the fields. Cairn S2 contained human skeletal material at its core. Artefacts were recovered at all levels of the cairn. The quantity of finds implied the presence of a midden site or one of occupation, but there was no structural evidence for such. The cairn S2 was very casually constructed and had no obvious stratification. There were flints of the Early Bronze Age type, but this could be the simple continuation of tradition through the Middle to the Late Bronze Age. Pottery possibly of the Late Bronze Age was found. |
