14/1300bc-8/700bc | West of the centre of the barrow was a grave 3m x 1.5m wide at the north, and 0.45m deep, oriented N/S, containing a bark coffin in 2 pieces. Upper and lower portions of the coffin had been fastened together at both sides. Inside was a secondary cremation probably of a young male, some flint flakes and a bronze dagger, but no charcoal. The place of cremation was found some distance away, the stakes thought to have supported the pyre being still in the ground. Another set of cremated bone was deposited nearby unenclosed. |
