2500bc-14/1300bc | Round barrow with possible primary interment, in a cavity below the original land surface, of unburnt bones, and nearby a chert spearhead and flint scraper. Over this the whole floor of the tumulus was covered with a thick deposit of wood ashes and charcoal. The rock base below and the flints heaped above were all calcined and discoloured as if by fierce burning. Higher up, on the south side, a large barrel-shaped urn was inverted on a tile of lighter clay containing burnt bones and ashes, and an accessory vessel. Just below the barrow surface, and 0.3m higher was a bronze or copper knife-dagger on top of potsherds. |
