2500bc-14/1300bc | Round barrow of oolitic rubble excavated from the barrow ditch. The original turf line was covered with ash and charcoal of willow or poplar, ash, holly and possibly birch, and showed much evidence of burning. On this turf line were found: an antler pick, a small piece of Bronze Age pot, 2 pieces of antler, a flint thumb scraper, a small fragment of human bone, four articulated ox vertebrae, parts of two ox skulls, other animal bones (pig, horse, sheep), and 10 flint flakes. There were the remains of a 1.8m cross timber, 2 post holes, and a small hole with human skeletal material fragments. The centre of the barrow had been disturbed. |
