2500bc-14/1300bc | A round barrow of fine earth, with probably a slab covering. There was a probably primary central corbel-roofed slab-lined cist 1.2m square, containing the cremation most likely of a woman and child with a 2-rivetted bronze knife-dagger. The charcoal from the pyre was apparently spread in layers at intervals as the mound was built. On the east and north east sides there was a considerable stratum of charcoal and decomposed animal matter, intermingled with tooth of horse, tusk of boar and jaw of dog, more or less co-extensive with the base of the mound. |
