2500bc-14/1300bc | A round barrow, the cairn enclosed by a kerb and extra-revetment. Just south east of the centre was a primary burial. Against the south face of a hog-backed stone were three pieces of unburnt human skeletal material, the surrounding material pitched over them and against the stone. There was a broken bronze awl 1.4m south of the primary burial. At the south west side near the annex of Hampnett 1 (Site 350) was a scatter of cremation material and Bronze Age urn sherds, near the middle of the cairn wall, and next to an Anglo-Saxon stone edged grave. At the east angle of the junction, between this barrow and Hampnett 3 (Site 351) a slab covered a small pit containing a small overhanging rim urn and a plano-convex flint knife. Black charcoal stained soil filled the hole, but there were no human remains. |
