2500bc-14/1300bc A bell barrow on a false crest, comprising a ring of flints 8.5-9m in diameter, 0.6-1.2m wide and 0.3m high. The centre was filled with dumps of flint, and earth and weathered chalk surrounded the primary flint ring. A layer of chalk rubble covered the earth and weathered chalk layer. 4 sherds of Early/Middle Bronze Age pottery were in the central flint dumps. Seven fragments of unburnt human bone were found; one in the central flint core, 4 at points on the original land surface, 2 in the area of central disturbance. There were two probable cremation groups, one to the north of the barrow centre, and one at the centre. A spread of charcoal patches existed in the central area, the clearest being in the north east quadrant, and indications of large timbers burnt in situ, in an arc on the edge of the primary flint dump. There were 4 stake holes in no pattern in the central area, sealed by throw out from the grave.
