2500bc-14/1300bc | A round barrow containing a pit 1.8m long oriented EW, with in it a large adult male 'with his limbs gathered up and crossed' (Hoare 1812, 44) and the skeleton of a younger person on his right side, the head close to the head of the first. Close by was a Bi Beaker, and near the left side of the male was a copper dagger, and a slate wrist guard. Also accompanying the inhumations were: a small bone instrument, and two circular gold discs with two circular central perforations, a cross decoration and a rim studded with indentations. (Compare Monkton Farleigh 2, Site 507, for another example of a marked gold disc). To the east of this pit was a large quantity of charred wood. |
