2500bc-14/1300bc | A bowl barrow containing a pit 2.4m x 1.1m x 1.2m deep with an adult male c30 buried full length. He had been of poor body development and at the feet were remains of a small plain pot of coarse gritty ware. Under the skull was a fine flat bronze dagger. The body had been laid on some vegetable matter or buried in cloth or skins as a deposit of brown matter was observable all over the pit bottom. A secondary cremation deposit of a person c20, imperfectly burnt, was 0.6m above the pit in a bowl-shaped recess in the loose chalk of the barrow mound. |
