2500bc-14/1300bc | A bowl barrow of slightly oval shape with a primary turf stack covered by a gravel capping. Burial pit II was central, its base lined with charcoal and burnt flints, sealed by ash and black soil, the top filled with ash, charcoal, and burnt flints spilling over the edges. A layer of fine gravel covered this and a turf was placed on top. An inverted urn stood on this turf, of biconical form, covering a cremation. Burial pit I was just to the south south east of Burial pit II. It was straight sided and contained a primary cremation under an inverted urn with two lugs. Both urns contained black sooty earth but no bone. RC: from primary cremation in pit 1 with upright bucket urn beneath barrow NPL-199 1740 +/- 90, and from the cremation in the bucket urn in pit II NPL-74 1380 +/- 90 |
