2500bc-14/1300bc | A bell barrow containing a central primary cist with a lightly flexed female skeleton accompanied by an intact short necked Beaker, and wrapped in a shroud possibly of cloth, fastened at the neck by a bronze awl. A satellite cist contained the skeleton of a child which appeared to have been enveloped in a shroud. A satellite pit contained an unaccompanied cremation. A very large cairn had been built over these primary burials, reveted by a 0.6m high wall, 9m in diameter. This cairn contained 4 unaccompanied cremations inserted as the cairn was built. A secondary cremation was contained in an upright enlarged food vessel of massive proportions, 0.45m in diameter. A turf stack covered the cairn (which was reveted by a wall) and chalk capped the whole mound. |
