2500bc-14/1300bc | Five urn deposits were sited on a hedge line, two inverted and covering cremation deposits, and three smaller (food) vessels, one beautifully decorated with a cord pattern deeply incised. The site may have been that of a destroyed barrow but it is uncertain. Urn 1 was a large inverted collared cinerary urn placed in a round pit dug into natural rock. Urn 2 was another collared urn inverted over burnt bones. Vessel 3 was a food vessel found 12m east of Urn 1 and set upright. Vessel 4 was a food vessel finely decorated as described, and Vessel 5 another food vessel with some punctured dart decoration. Vessels 4 and 5 have collars 40% of their depth. |
