2500bc-14/1300bc | A bowl barrow with earth and chalk mound covering a central oval grave oriented NNE/SSW and 0.8m x 0.65m x 0.4m deep, containing mostly charcoal amongst which were the cremated remains (but not all) of one person. Chalk stones covered this interment. East south east of the centre was a large sarsen stone laid over a smaller stone. An area 1.8m in diameter at the centre was covered with charcoal and some occasional pieces of burnt bone, but there was no reddening of the soil. In the barrow mound was a flint scraper and flint arrow head with hollowed base. |
