2500bc-14/1300bc | A grave of irregular outline cut as a shallow scoop out of the hard chalk bedrock, either a flat grave or possibly the remains of a ploughed out barrow inhumation. The body was that of an adult male c25 on its left side, flexed, facing NE, and near its thigh a flint plano-convex knife. Adjacent to the chest was a fragment of pottery, probably from infilling the grave, a black undecorated sherd like those found at Whiteleaf Hill (Site 124). The accompanying flint knife suggests a Late Neolithic date or possibly later. |
