  1. Has heard and read about it, and perhaps been examined in it (equivalent of a first year undergraduate lecture course).
  2. Has done a specialised course or module at 2nd or 3rd year level.
  3. Has done a dissertation at undergraduate or Masters level in an aspect of it, or has extensive field experience on Iron Age sites.
  4. Has completed a PhD in an aspect of it, or has extensive fieldwork experience in the period and has written some papers on aspects of it.
  5. Is a recognised national expert on the period (though not necessarily all aspects of it).
