The European Digital Resource in Archaeology: Sites and Monuments Data as a common European Web Resource

Claus Dam and Henrik Jarl Hansen

Summary

The ARENA project has brought the idea of a common European heritage web resource closer. With sites and monuments data from six nations available for interoperable search, valuable insight has been gained into the technical and other difficulties involved resulting in a clear view to the next logical steps.

Drawing on a discussion of the status of Internet use within the cultural heritage sector in Denmark, a number of perspectives for using the Internet for cultural heritage management and information dissemination is drawn up. Denmark is offered as an example; others could probably be found.
