8.0 Post-Medieval Period

Archaeological sites from the relatively recent past can be identified throughout the landscape of Azerbaijan. The Post- Medieval period represents a time when the cities expanded and many of the villages became fixed in their locations and grew in physical size. This process became more developed in the late nineteenth century and Soviet periods with the development of industrial activities and communication routes such as roads and railways. There is little available information of the development of the pre-Soviet landscape. The majority of features were identified from aerial images.
