4.2 Applications using advanced computational methods

A growing area of interest in the computer science community is the application of automated analyses to 3-D representations of archaeological materials (cf. Gilboa et al. 2004; Kampel and Sablatnig 2006; Karasik and Smilansky 2008). The Hampson Museum materials have already served this community, including work conducted by Koutsoudis and his associates (Koutsoudis et al. 2010) on novel compact shape descriptors designed specifically for content-based retrieval of complete or nearly complete 3-D vessel replicas. A second article on their work is currently under development.

The comments facility has now been turned off.
