The only other bird that appears with any regularity is the eagle. The eagle was most commonly paired with Jupiter and as such is also a symbol used by the military, often in association with the standard (Henig 1995b, 48). The eagle is most often shown with his wings spread (558), but occasionally they are folded across its back (215).
