4.4 Figurine types and their distribution

While the distribution of all figurines shows that their use was widespread in Britain, this does not show whether particular forms were more popular among certain groups within the population. One problem with any analysis of the distribution of individual figurine types is the small numbers represented, which are then further depleted by the lack of contextual information for many pieces. For many of the figurine types it is likely that the rural sites are under-represented, as these are the sites that are least likely to have been subject to investigation. However, it is hoped that a study of the more common figurines might yield useful information.
