Description | His Celtic or Teutonic lineage can be detected in his thatch-like mop of hair, the neavy individual locks of which drip down over the forehead, in his shaggy beard, in his flat nose, and in his wide, half-open mouth. This rider wears a cloak, a tunic and boots and he holds hozizontally, once above his horse's back, a circular shield with central boss. It is a well-modelled, vigorous piece, perhaps cast in Gaul and imported into this island (Toynbee). |
