Description | The casting is well executed, with light ribbing over the body and legs, and herringbone decoration running down the spine. The underside has not been finished smoothly after casting, perhaps suggesting that it was meant to be fixed to a base. The creature is sitting as ease, with its hind legs slightly out from its body and its left foot slightly lower, and much worn on the underside as a result. All the feet are webbed. Fine detail in the form of pecking around the head has been added after casting, in the same manner as the Chelmsford and Canfield cockerels. The creature is sleek, almost plump, with its head well up and lively, and in this respect resembles the Canfield cockerel (Drury). |
